Of course, then I got frustrated with what I was trying to work on. Premiere is... Interesting in the way it works, let's say. I still find it more intuitive than most of the other editing apps I've tried, but I'm a bit rusty on how to use it. It's coming back to me, albeit slowly. I tried to convert my old 6.x project to 7, and it didn't go well. It still stutters and such. I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and recap all the footage as DV through the cam... Anyway, I also discovered that it pays to be patient when working with large files. "Not Responding" means it's working - even if Task Manager shows little utilization.
I worked a bit with adding titles and such - I think I'll have to go over to Photoshop, though... The built-in titler is okay for quick and dirty stuff, but sucks otherwise. I can't even figure out how to edit one once it's in. I played around a bit with the DV footage I have, and that works great. I'm also wondering if perhaps I should split my RAID array back out to two separate 200G disks, and have one for raw source and the other for in progress.
I need to find music appropriate for Chichi's memorial disc
I thought the music from that MB commercial would be nice, but it's a short custom mix. Evidently, there's no released longer version. Dammit. I would still like to try to capture it and use it for the DVD menu or somesuch. The only other ideas I've come up with so far are Hoobastank - The Reason (which doesn't really fit lyrics-wise, although the music and lyrical style are perfect), and some acapella that Chichi was fond of. What I'd like is some nice music about family, friends, pictures, missing dead relatives, etc.
Speaking of disks, I just got back from the store. I went to CC and got a 120G WD drive which is pretty cheap after rebate. And then I headed over to Comp to get a 160G Segate SATA which was also a decent deal. I'll probably sit on them for a few days in case better deals come out tomorrow, then get the rebates going. I dread installing them, because it means I have to redo practically my entire File Server - unscrew ALL the drives to get these in where I want them, etc. The interesting thing is that I'll have an extra 30 or 40G drive that I can either sell off or put in the Editing Machine as a scratch disk.
I also spent some time with various tweak guides tweaking my Editing machine for better performance. I had already done quite a bit, and I disagreed with some of what was in there, but the rest was nice stuff. I don't generally benchmark, so there's no way to guage improvement. I plan to take the same steps on the Server and Laptop.
I watched part of American Chopper last night, then Monster House while I was waiting for an eBay auction to end. I didn't win, and didn't feel like staying up for the following one a few hours later.
I WANT: Konami Beatmania IIDX Arcade Style Controlller (ASC) for PS2
I need to dig up contacts in Japan and find out if anyone can get one or two for a reasonable price and ship to me. I don't really want to pay eBay price for them, as one went for something like $460 before shipping.
The rest of the day, I'm going to do whatever... I've no plan, really, until LittleLove comes over after work. We'll prolly get dinner and head out shopping, as they've got a few things on their list to get. That's one of the reasons I went out already, to get my stuff done and out of the way so that we don't have to rush around later trying to get it all done. Oh, I had Chinese for lunch - Schezuan for a change of pace. And I went to the store and somehow managed to spend $60 on food. I'm still not quite sure how.
Right now, I've got Tiger cuddling with me on the couch, and it's time for a snack.
